Online Bulletin Board Overview

Online bulletin boards are linear discussions hosted online via a secure platform. These boards occur over time, allowing respondents to provide in-depth feedback to moderator questions. Additionally, these groups are conducted with as many as 24 respondents per board. All participants react to posted questions, which result in substantial individual feedback from all participants. This online qualitative method not only allows us to explore perceptions, attitudes, relationships, and behavior on a deep level – it is also time and cost effective.

Since these discussions occur over time, the topics and content are truly flexible throughout a given project. Our online platform allows us to show images, live websites, static comps, audio/video file and a variety of other stimuli.

Customer Relevance uses the power of the Internet to connect you with your target audience, giving you the capacity to:

  • evaluate new product concepts or design compositions prior to development of the site, application or product
  • test prototypes in both early and late stages
  • test existing websites and online applications

How Do Online Bulletin Boards work?
Typically, each bulletin board is conducted with 18-20 respondents – about twice the size of a normal focus group. Carefully screened respondents are assigned usernames and passwords to access a fully moderated online discussion that occurs over time (typically 3 days). Respondents spend about 30 minutes per day answering questions posted by the moderator and reacting to the comments of other study participants. Clients can observe these sessions 24/7 from any internet connection worldwide, and send messages to the moderator. Also, transcripts from these sessions are available immediately at the close of each session.

Online Qualitative at Customer Relevance
Customer Relevance has conducted numerous BBFGs on a variety of subjects including technology, consumer packaged goods, automotive research, market trends, brand research and website design. While we did not invent online bulletin boards, we have been implementing and moderating online sessions for over 6 years. We understand the advantages of the online approach as well as the limitations of the methodology. Our moderators draw upon their background in traditional qualitative research to design and implement engaging online discussions. Additionally, we fully understand the power of online innovation and are committed to developing new ways to communicate with target audiences.

Our Online Qualitative Research Approach
Commitment to Representative Research
To ensure test participants are an accurate representation of your target audience, Customer Relevance completes an in-depth screening and recruitment process that closely mirrors traditional face to face recruiting.

Online Tools
Customer Relevance online research is conducted with state-of-the-art software—allowing participants to view graphics, websites, streaming video, audio and flash presentations. We use an asynchronous approach that allows participants to visit a site over the course of a few days to react to questions posted by the moderator.

Online Control
Customer Relevance’s innovative interface allows both moderator and client to post questions, read participant responses, and have private discussions with the click of a button.

Depth of Feedback
Given their anonymous presence, participants are less bound by social constraints that may be present in face-to-face groups. In an online environment, participants are more open and honest and because participants are given more time – they typically develop a more lengthy and thoughtful response to every question.

Detailed Analysis of Results
Upon conclusion of your online focus group, Customer Relevance will provide a comprehensive analysis of the results, including market comparisons, reports for critical decision making, and recommendations for remediation.
